We are pleased that there has been incredible interest in working at Garden Hills Pool this summer!  As of February 13, 2022, we have received enough qualified applicants for a successful Summer Season.  However, if you are interested in working at the pool this summer, we can place you on a waitlist.  We tend to have shifts in staff as the summer progresses and vacation opportunities arise!

 

All candidates for consideration for employment must be willing to learn, have great communication skills, work well in a team environment, take on new tasks when asked by Management, and commit to showing up to assigned shifts.

Descriptions of Positions

 

♦ Pool Rat

 

Pool Rat is an excellent first job for those who wish to get experience in the work force. Candidates must: Be at least 14 years old; obtain CPR/First Aid Certifications; be able to work a minimum of four weeks during the summer (Mid-May through Mid-September).

Pool Rat Staff are allowed to get lifeguard-certified at the age of 15 and move into a Lifeguard role mid-summer if approved by Management.

 

Listed below are a few of the many duties and tasks that you will be expected to complete as a Pool Rat:

  • Collect daily admissions and subscription fees and forms
  • Greet patrons entering the facility and maintain a proper sign-in log
  • Learn prices and functions of the cash register
  • Sell concessions
  • Learn how to operate the grill and snow cone machine
  • Keep the bathrooms clean throughout the day
  • Carry out various chores on the pool deck (i.e. sweeping and emptying trash cans)
   

♦ Lifeguard

 

Full/Part-time Lifeguard Candidates must: Be 15 years old; obtain Lifeguard & CPR/First Aid Certifications; be able to work a minimum of five weeks during the summer (Mid-May through Mid-September)

 

Listed below are a few of the many duties and tasks that we expect our Lifeguards to complete:

  • Prepare pool facility for opening
  • Maintain facility safety at all times and instruct patrons on safe behavior
  • Administer First Aid/CPR when needed
  • Attend mandatory, periodic lifeguarding skill review sessions
  • Perform swim tests for our annual camp visitors
  • Help maintain pool grounds
 

♦ Manager

 

Candidates for Manager must: Be 18 or older; obtain Lifeguard & CPR/First Aid Certifications; be able to work a minimum of six to seven weeks during the summer (Mid-May through Mid-September).

 

In addition, candidates for Manager positions will be expected to:

  • Oversee the Lifeguards and manage the Pool Rats
  • Maintain the Concessions Stand in tandem with the Pool Board. Duties include:
    • Conducting inventory
    • Placing orders
    • Maintaining a sanitary environment
 

They must also have an easy but firm manner in engaging with the staff and members of the pool; problem-solving as needs arise, and working supportively with the Pool Director.
